Sumber Sejarah Nabi SAW
alhikmah.ac.id – Sumber-sumber utama yang dipakai dalam menyusun Biografi Nabi SAW dapat disimpulkan ke dalam empat sumber:
1. Al-Qur’an
Al-Qur’an adalah sumber pokok yang memuat tonggak-tonggak Sejarah Hidup Nabi Muhammad. Al-Qur’an meninggikan perihal kehidupan Rasulullah sewaktu masih kecil, dalam ayat:
أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فَآوَى
وَوَجَدَكَ ضَالًّا فَهَدَى
“Bukankah Dia dapati engkau dalam keadaan yatim, lalu engkau dipelihara. Dan Dia dapati engkau dalam kebingungan lalu kamu dibimbing?” (QS. Adh-Dhuha: 6-7)
Mengenai akhlaqnya Al-Qur’an menyatakan:
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلى خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
“Sesungguhnya engkau berakhlaq mulia.” (QS. Al-Qalam: 4)
Di samping itu diceritakan pula kepedihan-kepedihan dan penderitaan-penderitaan yang dialami Rasulullah dalam melaksanakan dakwahnya. Begitu pula tuduhan-tuduhan negatif dan destruktif yang digembar-gemborkan orang-orang kafir dan ingkar. Dalam Al-Qur’an terdapat pula keterangan tentang hijrah Nabi dan peperangan-peperangan penting yang terjadi setelah hijrah, seperti perang Badar, Uhud, Ahzab, Hunain, perjanjian Hudaibiyah, perang Hunain dan takluknya kota Makkah. Ada juga disebut salah satu mukjizatnya, yaitu Isra’ dan Mi’raj.
Secara global dapatlah dikatakan, Al-Qur’an menyinggung sebagian besar fakta-fakta sejarah Rasulullah SAW. Oleh karena itu kitab suci ini merupakan kitab yang keterangan-keterangannya paling terpercaya dan diakui secara historis, maka penjelasan mengenai sejarah Nabi Muhammad mutlak harus dijadikan sumber data.
Memang, Al-Qur’an hanya menyinggung peristiwa-peristiwa dimaksud secara global. Suatu ketika Al-Qur’an berbicara mengenai suatu peperangan, tetapi dengan tidak menerangkan sebab-sebabnya, tempat terjadinya peperangan, jumlah kekuatan Islam dan musuh, dan tidak pula mengatakan jumlah prajurit Muslim yang gugur ataupun jumlah orang kafir yang tertawan. Sebaliknya Al-Qur’an hanya berbicara mengenai pelajaran-pelajaran yang dapat dipetik dan masing-masing peperangan tersebut. Begitu pula ketika ia membicarakan tentang kisah Nabi-nabi dan umat-umat sebelum Muhammad.
Oleh karenanya keterangan Al-Qur’an belum cukup untuk dapat menyusun sebuah biografi Nabi Muhammad dalam bentuk yang lengkap dan utuh.
2. Sunnah
Sunnah Nabi yang diakui kebenarannya (shahih) di dunia Islam adalah Hadits-hadits yang terkodifikasi dalam enam buah buku (Al-Kutub as-sittah).
Buku-buku dimaksud adalah Shahih Bukhari, Shahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Daud, Sunan Nasa’i, Sunan Turmudzi dan Sunan Ibnu Majah[1]. Termasuk dalam kategori ini dua buah buku Hadits lagi, yaitu Al-Muwattha Imam Malik dan Musnad Imam Ahmad.
Shahih Bukhari dan Shahih Muslim menempati kedudukan teratas dilihat dari segi keshahihannya, sedangkan selainnya mengandung tidak saja Hadits-hadits shahih, tetapi juga memuat Hadits hasan dan Hadits dha’if).
Dan kitab-kitab tersebut yang tercatat sebagian besar ihwal kehidupan Nabi SAW, peperangan, sikap dan tingkah lakunya, dapatlah disusun konsep yang menyeluruh bagi penyusunan biografi beliau. Hadits adalah sumber yang terpercaya, karena diriwayatkan secara kronologis sampai kepada Nabi, sehingga isinya tidak bisa diragukan lagi kebenarannya.
Para orientalis dan orang-orang Islam yang lemah agamanya dan telah terpengaruh oleh ahli-ahli dan barat, selalu berusaha menanamkan rasa ragu akan kebenaran isi kitab-kitab Hadits yang disebut di atas. Maksud mereka tidak lain untuk menghancurkan agama dan membuat orang ragu terhadap fakta-fakta sejarah. Tetapi dalam pada itu, ternyata masih selalu ada ulama-ulama yang mampu memutar balik tuduhan-tuduhan mereka itu. Pengarang sendiri, dalam buku yang berjudul, Sunnah dan Kedudukannya Dalam Hukum Islam, telah menyanggah apa-apa yang mereka tuduhkan dan telah melacak keraguan mereka dengan keterangan keterangan ilmiah.
3. Syair yang Sezaman Dengan Kerasulan
Pada masa Nabi, orang-orang Musyrik menyerang pribadi dan dakwah beliau melalui lisan para penyair. Hal ini memaksa penyair-penyair Muslim – seperti Hasan bin Tsabit dan Abdullah bin Riwawah dan lain-lain – memberikan pembelaan secara puitis pula. Hal ini tertulis dalam buku-buku kesusastraan dan biografi yang dikarang kemudian.
Dan syair-syair itu dapat disarikan atau diketahui fakta-fakta yang berkenaan dengan situasi pada masa Rasulullah hidup dan pada saat dakwah Islamiyah untuk pertama kalinya tumbuh subur.
4. Buku Biografi
Data sejarah Nabi merupakan riwayat lisan, yang oleh para sahabat disampaikan kepada generasi berikutnya. Sebagian sahabat ada yang mengkhususkan menyeleksi data itu secara teliti dan terperinci. Kemudian data itu diterima oleh para tabi’in untuk seterusnya ditulis.
Di antara kalangan tabi’in yang banyak mencurahkan perhatian kepada biografi Nabi ialah:
1. Abban bin Usman bin Affan (32-105 H),
2. Urwah bin Zuber bin Awwam (23-93),
3. Abdullah bin Abu Bakar Al-Anshari (wafat 135 H),
4. Muhammad bin Musurn bin Shihab Az-Zuhry (wafat 129 H).
Beralih kepada generasi seterusnya dan mereka mulai menyusun buku masing-masing. Yang masyhur di antara mereka adalah Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yassar (wafat 152 H). Buku beliau ini merupakan buku yang dipercaya kebenarannya oleh para ulama dan ahli-ahli Hadits, terkecuali data yang diriwayatkannya dan Malik dan Hisyam bin Urwah bin Zuber. Data yang diambil dari dua orang yang disebut terakhir ini dianggap invalid (tak dapat dipercaya), karena antara keduanya dengan Muhammad bin Ishaq terdapat sentimen pribadi.
Dalam mengarang bukunya “Al-Maghazi” Muhammad bin Ishaq mengumpulkan data yang terdiri dari Hadits-hadits dan riwayat-riwayat yang didapatnya langsung dan masyarakat ketika dia tinggal di Mesir dan Madinah. Sayang sekali buku ini tidak sampai ke tangan kita, hal mana merupakan kerugian. Namun demikian isinya sempat terpelihara lewat Ibnu Hisyam yang mengarang biografi Nabi dengan menimba bahannya dan Al-Bakkai – seorang murid Muhammad bin Ishaq yang ternama.
a. Buku As-Sirah Karangan Ibnu Hisyam
Dia adalah Abdul Malik bin Ayyub Al-Anshar, dibesarkan di kota Basrah dan wafat tahun 213 H. Ibnu Hisyam mengarang buku berjudul As-Siratu An-Nabawiyah. Sumber datanya sama dengan sumber data yang dipakai oleh Muhammad bin Ishaq, yaitu melalui muridnya AI-Bakkai seperti disebutkan di atas. Tetapi ia mempunyai sumber data yang lain, yakni guru-gurunya. Apa-apa yang belum ditulis oleh Muhammad bin Ishaq ditulisnya dalam bukunya itu. Seringkali beliau menampilkan pandangan yang berbeda dengan Muhammad bin Ishaq atau menyanggah pandangannya manakala bertentangan dengan tinjauan ilmiah daya kritiknya.
Beliau menyusun sejarah hidup Nabi yang dinilai paling lengkap, paling terpercaya dan mendetail. Buku ini dijadikan referensi oleh banyak ahli dan telah diberi komentar oleh As-Suhaily (508 -581 H)
b. Buku Tabaqat Karangan Ibnu Saad
Beliau adalah Muhammad bin Mani’ Az-Zuhry lahir di Basrah pada tahun 168 H., wafat di Bagdad pada tahun 230 H. Ia adalah sekretaris pribadi Muhammad bin Umar Al-Waqidi, seorang ahli sejarah kenamaan dengan spesialisasi di bidang Sejarah Peperangan dan Biografi. (130-207 H)
Dalam buku Tabaqat ini diuraikan Sejarah Hidup Nabi SAW. Kemudian ditambahnya pula dengan uraian mengenai tingkatan, suku dan tempat tinggal para sahabat dan tabi’in. Itulah sebabnya buku ini dianggap sebagai sumber data yang utama dalam segi biografi Nabi dan sejarah hidup para sahabat dan tabi’in.
c. Buku Tarikh Karangan At-Thabary
Ia adalah Muhammad bin Jarir At-Thabary (224-310 H). Beliau juga seorang imam, ahli hukum Islam dan ahli Hadits. Dalam fiqih dia pernah membangun mazhab tersendiri, tetapi tidak menyebar luas. Buku-buku sejarah yang dikarangnya tidak hanya mengenai sejarah hidup Nabi, tetapi juga sejarah pemerintahan Islam sejak mula sampai dengan pemerintahan pada masanya.
Sungguhpun riwayat-riwayat yang dikeluarkannya dianggap dapat dipercaya, namun seringkali beliau mengetengahkan riwayat-riwayat yang invalid yang diambilnya dari tokoh-tokoh yang memiliki beberapa kelemahan kuantitatif dan kualitatif dan itu semua justru diketahui oleh umum. Contoh yang dapat kita catat di sini misalnya Abu Muhnif, seorang penganut mazhab Syafi’i yang sangat fanatik.
Pada masa-masa ini penulisan sejarah hidup Nabi mengalami perkembangan pesat, dan timbullah buku-buku yang khusus membicarakan aspek tertentu dengan tema tertentu pula. Di antara buku-buku tersebut: Dalail An-Nubuwah, karangan Al-Isfahany, As-Syamailul Muhammadiyah, karangan At-Turmudzi, Zaadul Maad, oleh Ibnu Qayyim Al-Jauzi, As-Syifa’i al-QadhiIyadh dan Al-Mawahibul Ladunniyah oleh Al-Qusthulany. Buku terakhir ini telah dikomentari oleh As-Zarqany (wafat 1122 H) dalam bukunya yang terdiri dari delapan jilid.
Sampai sekarang para ulama masih terus mengarang buku-buku sejarah hidup Nabi dengan metode yang dapat diterima oleh zaman kini. Di antara buku-buku biografi terkemuka dewasa ini terdapat Nurul Yaqin karangan Syeikh Muhammad Al-Khudry. Buku ini banyak digemari dan dijadikan literatur pokok pada beberapa perguruan tinggi yang ada di berbagai negeri Islam.
