Rupanya mereka juga tertarik membahas subjek bahasan ini karena ada hal-hal yang menarik. Mengapa begitu penting konsep thaharah dalam Islam? Mengapa dengan air sejuk, bukan air hangat?

Seusai melakukan hubungan suami istri dan perempuan pascamenstruasi, mengapa diwajibkan mandi junub dengan mencuci sekujur badan? Dan, mengapa harus dengan debu kalau tidak ada atau tidak mungkin dengan air? Pada saat berwudhu, mengapa anggota badan khusus itu yang harus dicuci?

Adalah Prof Rolf Ehrenfels, seorang neurolog dan psikolog tersohor Eropa, pernah secara khusus mendalami konsep thaharah, khususnya wudhu. Ia sangat takjub karena konsep thaharah dalam Islam amat sesuai dengan konsep neurologi dan psikologi.

Air sejuk yang dianggap suci dan menyucikan akan memberikan efek positif pada kesegaran simpul-simpul saraf dalam tubuh.

Air segar dan sejuk lebih sensitif memberikan rangsangan kepada pusat saraf ketimbang air hangat. Air sejuk akan lebih mudah memberikan semacam shock therapy dan menembus lapisan saraf ketimbang air hangat.

Mencuci sekujur badan dengan air sejuk seusai melakukan hubungan suami istri akan mengembalikan otot-otot dan sel-sel saraf yang tadinya tegang menjadi segar kembali.

Perempuan yang sudah menjalani menstruasi secara psikologis akan merasa bersih dan suci seusai mandi wajib serta dengan demikian melahirkan kembali rasa percaya diri seusai menjalani “masa kotor”.

Yang lebih menarik bagi Ehrenfels dan mungkin inilah yang membuatnya menjadi Muslim dan mengganti nama menjadi Baron Omar Ehrenfels, yaitu konsep wudhu dalam Islam.

Ia mulai menganalisis ayat wudhu. “Hai orang-orang yang beriman, apabila kamu hendak mengerjakan salat maka basuhlah mukamu dan tanganmu sampai dengan siku, dan sapulah kepalamu dan (basuh) kakimu sampai dengan kedua mata kaki. (QS al-Maidah [5]:6).
Menurut Baron Omar Ehrenfels, objek yang didiktekan langsung oleh Allah SWT untuk dibasuh pada saat mengambil air wudhu, yaitu daerah muka, tangan, dan kaki, ternyata itu simpul-simpul saraf paling sensitif.

Merangsang anggota badan tersebut dengan air sejuk maka akan menimbulkan kesegaran dan kesejukan psikis yang memudahkan seseorang berada dalam keadaan tenang atau khusyuk dalam bahasa Islam.

Sentuhan air segar juga bisa menurunkan gelombang frekuensi otak dari suasana beta ke alfa, kondisi otak yang lebih memungkinkan seseorang untuk fokus (khusyuk).

Komentar Prof Omar Ehrenfels, sebagaimana dikutip di dalam disertasi Dr H Ahmad Ramali tentang konsep wudhu dalam Islam, di antaranya:

“Pada peristiwa ini daya tubuh itu dipengaruhi oleh berbagai gerak, sikap, dan perlakuan yang tertentu pada muka, tangan, dan kaki. Penyucian ini bisa mengistirahatkan pusat saraf dari gelisah sehingga mencapai kondisi pemusatan pikiran. Urat-urat di sebelah dahi, tangan, dan kaki sangat peka.”

Dengan berwudhu Ehrenfels mengungkapkan, akan membuat saraf yang peka tersebut selaras dengan pusat kesadaran.

Dengan wudhu yang memakai niat dan doa maka ada persiapan, perubahan pemusatan menuju rohani. Sehingga,  getaran jiwa akan mengikuti hukum alam. Ia menyayangkan masih banyak Muslim yang menganggap wudhu hanya penyucian tubuh semata.

Subhanallah, ternyata benar semua perintah dan larangan Allah SWT sesungguhnya tidak untuk diri-Nya, tetapi kembali kepada kemaslahatan manusia sendiri.

Apa yang diperintahkan ternyata mendatangkan maslahat dan apa yang dilarang ternyata mendatangkan mafsadat bagi manusia. Saatnya kita menyadari dan mengindahkan perintah Tuhan dan menjauhi larangan-Nya jika kita menghendaki keselamatan dan kebahagiaan abadi. Wallahu a’lam.
